Sebago Boat Shoes
One last post on the WSA. The other brand beside Pantagonia that I liked while I was at the show was Sebago. Both brands are manufactured by the same company, Wolverine Worldwide, which isn't suprising. When a company that houses several brands is executing well, its generally reflected in good performance by all its brands. (Though when things either start heading south or improving after a long drought, often one brand will tip-off the change that sets off either a positive or negative domino effect on the other brands.)
But enough of my blah, blah, blah. Here is an ad image of a Sebago boat shoe. I love the shoe's sole--it combines good design with new technology. This type of top-to-bottom design is something I'd like to see traditional athletic footwear companies do more of.
As for the future of boat shoes as a fashion trend, I recently interviewed sneaker boutique owner Danny Waserstein, who owns Shoe Gallery in Miami, for a Footwear News trend story and he's a believer in the future selling power of the style. When I asked him what the next big thing in footwear is, he replied, "The boat shoe trend is going to become a mass trend for the urban customer.” Granted, Danny's in Miami so his outlook might be a bit skewed on shoes that relate to water and boats, but still, I think there's something to what he's saying.
