Air Fawse Ones

My buddy David over at HighSnobiety has a post up today linking to a illustrated history of Air Force Ones at Men's Style Even for the uber-afficianados, there's bound to be a factoid or two you didn't know about. Like did you know that three Baltimore-based retailers, Downtown Locker Room, Cinderella Shoes, and Charley Rudo's Sports, were responsible for keeping the style from being buried? Supposedly their actions earned them the nickname "The Three Amigos."

"Nike assembles six of the NBA's top defensive players—Bobby Jones, Moses Malone, Michael Cooper, Calvin Natt, Jamaal Wilkes, and Mychal Thompson—for its iconic 'Original Six' ad campaign. 'We shot it at the John Wayne Airport in Orange County right at sunset, and most of us didn't know each other real well,' Jones recalls. The group soon bonded over Nike's odd choice of uniforms: 'They gave us these weird-looking space suits.'"

On another note, how insanely good is Nike's marketing department that it's probably gonna have everyone and their brother writing about the Air Force One's 25th anniversary before the year is through? I bow to Nike's capitolistic prowess!
