Nike Supposedly Thinking of Buying Fila and/or Quicksilver

I can't read a lick of German, but a contact I have in Europe translated an article he recently came across, which reports that Nike is looking into purchasing Fila, Quicksilver or Japanese retailer Itochu.

Usually these rumors turn out to be a bunch of b.s., often floated by the company being purchased, but you never know. Nike's stock is flying high these days and it hasn't purchased anything in a while so I could believe that it's snooping around to add a brand to its harem.

Italy-based Fila might be interesting cause it's probably cheap these days and it'd be a nice "and WHAT?" comeback at Adidas, which purchased U.S.-based Reebok a year or so back. Then again, since it's kind of a mess right now AND it's a European business, Nike might feel like it doesn't want to try and clean up a company in disarray that's so far from its homebase in Beaverton. Quicksilver seems even less likely to me just cause it's a pretty big company right now, it has a lot of components and it's not cheap. And to my recollection Nike likes to buy companies that aren't so huge and complicated that they're past the point of moldability. I don't know crap about the Japanese retailer so I'll keep my mouth shut on that one. But are there no Nike Towns in Japan?

Here's the actual article for those of you who can speak German:

Will Nike Fila kaufen?
